Remains of the Day

Evan's birthday party went off without a hitch - thanks in a large part to all of the help we had from family members in town - and to the weather. After three days of non-stop rain, the skies cleared up just in time for the party, and it was absolutely beautiful.

This year we had a Mad Science party. We hired a company that does school programs and summer science camps to come in a do some fun, interactive experiments for the kids. Our scientist was terrific, and kept all of the kids enrapt for the entire 45 minutes, with magic tricks, static electricity, fireworks, ultraviolet lights, and making slime.

Needless to say, Star Wars was a major theme this year, along with transformers and Hot Wheels cars - and Evan got his fill of all three.

One of the best parts of the weekend was having Evan's cousin, Makayla, with us. Makayla is only 2.5, but seems alot older. And she adored Evan, following him around all weekend and calling him "my Eban." Luckily she could hold her own with him, and they had so much fun playing together. It was the first time that they've spent together since she was a baby - we hope they will be able to see each other often now.

Here are some highlights from the week:

We gave Evan a tent for his birthday gift. We set it up in the playroom, and Evan and John camped out all night, playing chess and reading stories.

Prism glasses - cool!

Making slime!

Cake time.

The Darth Vader cake - gluten free, of course (nope - I didn't make it myself!)
