Road Trip

This past week we made our first road trip with the babies. We drove up to Dallas to see all the grandparents - only a 2.5 hour drive to Gram and Pops' house, but we sure were dreading it. We really had no idea how they would do. Overall, though, things went pretty smoothly. The drive, in particular, was super easy, with the two little ones sleeping almost the entire way (we tried to time things with naptime), and although Kate stayed awake the ENTIRE drive, she entertained herself pretty well. And if she started to get fussy, I stuck a bottle in her mouth. It's probably a bad thing to do, but it works and I do it often. I never go anywhere with them now (well, anywhere I need them to be good for an extended period of time) without a bottle ready to go.

We spent the entire week visiting with different folks, and they were real champs during the day, but had massive meltdowns each evening. Luckily, they had no trouble sleeping in a strange place.

In any case, it was a success, and we are glad to have our first trip under our belts. We definitely feel we could do it again and survive.

At Gram and Pops' house, we spent a lot of time outside. Here are some pictures of the girls hanging out by the pool.

Our Graduate

Tuesday evening was Evan's Pre-K graduation. Yes, they actually dress them in caps and gowns. Doesn't it make him look so old? It was actually a really nice affair, with a cute slide show of pictures from the past several years, several songs performed by the graduates, and the handing out of the fake diplomas. Evan was very proud to be graduating, and was very concerned that we would not be there. Silly boy. We ALL made it - including three sick and hungry babies, and even Gram and Pops.

Long, Long Weekend

All three babies have colds, which made for a very long weekend around here. It started with Oliver, who came down with a runny nose and watery eyes on Thursday, then moved onto Kate on Friday, and finally to Willa on Sunday. Oliver was unconsolably miserable on Saturday, so we took him into the doctor, and found out he has an ear infection. Poor guy - he was so pitiful. And, all three also had an eye infection - with yellow crusty goop in their eyes, causing their lids to glue shut anytime they slept. Oliver is doing much better now, after several days of antibiotics and eye drops, and Kate seems to be on the mend today as well. Willa, however, has just reached her peak of miserableness, which is doubled by the fact that she has her first tooth breaking through.

Don't Forget Oliver

I realize that being a quiet, laid-back, happy little boy amidst two crazy, loud, high-maintenance little girls has its drawbacks. Mainly, you often get left on your own while your mother does her best to keep the other two under control. Oliver is such an easygoing little guy, and is always so good and content, that he really doesn't get a lot of one-on-one attention from us. Every now and then, we'll put the two girls in bed and keep Oliver up a little bit longer, and it is so EASY! I've posted quite a bit lately on Kate and Willa, so I wanted to throw in a cute picture of Oliver that I took a couple of weeks ago. He is looking so much like Evan.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day!

Yesterday we had a lovely day. After breakfast and presents (!), and after John woke up at 6am to bake me my favorite - strawberry - cake, we loaded up the family and headed downtown, to take a walk around Town Lake. Here are a few highlights:

Soccer Day

Here are some pictures from soccer last weekend.  I won't tell you how many goals he scored in this game (but it was more than 10!)

New Tooth

Oliver has his first tooth. He really doesn't like it. Lots of crying involved.

All Three

It is so difficult to get a good picture of all three babies. By the time I get them set up and make it back to the camera, someone has usually fallen over or is slowly tilting sideways. This is the best one I've been able to capture so far.

The babies are really starting to interact now, although admittedly most of their interaction consists of one baby trying to steal another's toy, and the second one getting really upset. Kate is best at this, as she is the only truly mobile one and is able to make a quick getaway. But sometimes I will sit all three next to each other, and they will look back and forth and exchange smiles. It's pretty cute.
