He also loves the exercauser, and will bounce up and down in it all day, with a big smile on his face. And when he gets excited, he likes to yell out in glee.
When Oliver smiles, he smiles with everything. His entire face crinkles up, and it's like that's just not enough to express his feelings, so he tightens his fist and literally shakes his entire body. It reminds me of a puppy dog wagging his tail!

Well, we decided to be brave and take all of the kids to their first South by Southwest event. On Saturday, they had a free children's showcase downtown at Auditorium Shores (can you see the stage in the background?) It was a beautiful day, and we tried out our jogging stroller for the first time. They need to grow into it a little bit more, but they did great! They lasted for a full two and a half hours before all three suddenly started screaming and it was time to go home.
We got to see Joe McDermott, who is one of Evan's favorites, but we had to leave just before the Biscuit Brothers came on. In consolation, Evan was able to meet and talk with one of the Biscuits, Buford I believe, and he thought that was really cool.
Here are all three in their floppy sun hats (which they hate!). Oliver smiled the whole time, and really seemed to love being outside. Willa wasn't too happy to be stuck in the stroller, but cheered up when we pulled her out. And Kate was oblivious to everything going on around her - she just sat there happily chewing on anything she could grab.
We attracted a lot of attention, but not nearly as much as we get with the "long" stroller. I'm getting tired of being such a spectacle everywhere we go. Everyone around us kept watching us - we started to feel like they were just gleefully waiting for a meltdown, like NASCAR fans waiting for a car crash.

Kate said her first words on Wednesday. Despite all of my best efforts - despite hours of repeating "mama, mama" to her every day for the past month, the first word out of her mouth was ... "dada." John is so proud. I'm turning my efforts to Oliver now!

As of this week, she is also crawling! It is more of a military style crawl on her knees and elbows, but it counts, it moves her forward. She is now into everything. Unfortunately (for Missy and Molly), she is very drawn to the dogs. I pulled her off of Molly's bed yesterday and she was covered in black dog hair. The next minute I turned around, and she was all the way across the room playing in Missy's dog food. Oh boy, time to baby proof the house!
Oh, and she likes to take toys away from her siblings. Here she is going after one of Willa's.
The bad news is that the babies are so big now they each required two RSV shots to get the full dose. The good news is that this was the last round of shots - RSV season is considered over later this month! Yeah!

The babies turn eight months old today. As you can see, they are much more active than they used to be.
I love this picture - there is so much going on. I caught Willa in one of her rare smiles. She loves to reach out and touch things, and observe. Kate is sitting up on her own, doing her own thing, and has just spit up, hence the dribble on her chin. She is clearly still our best eater. And Oliver is just staring up with that in awe - deer in the headlights look of his.
All of the babies are sitting pretty well with support. Kate can sit on her own for about a minute until she topples sideways. Willa is our best sitter, though, she sits up all prim and proper. All three have found ways to move around on the floor. Oliver likes to lay on his back and dig his heels in, pushing himself forward across the floor. Willa flops her legs back and forth and sort of wiggles across the room on her back. And Kate loves to be on her tummy. She can roll anywhere she wants to go, but is SO close to crawling. She can get up on her knees, but hasn't figured out how to push up with her arms, so she reaches forward and grabs the rug, trying to pull herself around. I expect her to figure things out any day now.
And, the babies seem to love Daylight Savings time - they are still in bed by 8, but now sleep until 8 or 8:30. Needless to say, I am loving that too!
